Shared note

Samuel Vary is said to have come to Stephentown NY in 1769 with his wife Hannah and his family from Beekman Patent, Dutchess County NY. They settled on a farm, densely wooded, which was deeded to them by Aaron Simpson on 21 MAY 1774 in the 15th year of his Majesty George III's reign. They built a log cabin in which they lived until the home was built a few years later. This was a large early colonial house called Meadowbrook which still stood in 1992, recognized as Stephentowns oldest house. Samuel Vary was elected supervisor of Stephentown in the years 1795 to 1797, while George Washington was the first president of the United States. This is the Samuel Vary of Stephentown upon whom we Varys of the Vary Family Reunion base our genealogy.
