Betty was raised by her aunt, Nellie Besaw. She had ten grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren; and a special friend and roommate, Erma Fairchilds. She attended General Martin High School, and worked for Lally Manufacturing in Port Leyden for several years. A marriage to Clifford Gydesen ended in divorce. She worked as a chamber maid at the Bateman Hotel, and was a cleaner for Lowville Academy and Central School for 14 years, retiring in 1989. Betty was a lifetime member of Lewis County Memorial Post #6912, VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed crocheting and crossword puzzles. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, and playing card games.A special thank you to the third floor staff and other caregivers at the Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility, for their loving care and support of Betty during her stay at the nursing home, where she resided since October 2010.
