He died following a valiant 3-month struggle against kidney cancer. Following graduation from Marinette High School, he served in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1953 to 1956, then attended the Indiana Business College and Butler University. Before retirement in 2000, David owned and operated a packaging and shipping store at the corner of S.R. 31 South and Southport Rd. His prior employment included Treasurer and Executive Vice President of The Sanborn Electric Company, where he served for 26 years, until the company closed in 1986; Treasurer of Arsenal Savings Association from 1986 to 1988; Controller of Union Federal Savings Bank from 1988 to 1990; and Chief Financial Officer of HP Direct, an advertising agency, from 1990 to 1993. He served as a volunteer on the boards of many community organizations including Crossroads Rehabilitation Center, Marion County Mental Health Association, Atkins Boy's Club, and was a member of the Dean's Advisory Committee for IUPUI School of Science. From 1984 through 1996 he served as Secretary of The Downtown Kiwanis Club of Indianapolis and the Kiwanis Foundation of Indianapolis.For the last two summers, he volunteered as a teaching aid for the National Junior Tennis League and taught tennis to children at Perry Park in south Indianapolis, as well as a volunteer teacher of adult tennis at the Bay Indies Resort Community in Venice, Florida.
