For 20 years following the death of his wife at Harrisburg NY, he made his residence in Niagara Falls, Niagara, NY at the home of his daughter and her husband--Dr. and Mrs. O. G. Harrington. He took a deep interst in all public matters and to the close of his long and useful life was an active supporter of worthy enterprises. His entrie business life as a successful farmer was spent at Harrisburg where his father and grandfather preceded him. He enlisted in the union army in the Civil war and was one of the oldest member of the Lowville Masonic Lodge. His death at the advanced age of 86 years occurred at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Mason L. Webster at Lowville where he had bur recently gone for his usual summer visit.
