In about 1873 when he was 9 years old, the family moved to Lewis County, locating in the town of Harrisburg where he resided for 38 years. He moved to Lowville in about 1922. For serveral years he was in charge of the Baptist church sheds and also dealt in general farm machinery and automobiles, retiring from active business 8 years before his death. Politically he was affilliated with the Republican party and for several years served as a member of the board of assessors of the town of Lowville. He was a member of Lowville Lodge, No 134, F. & A.M., Lowville Lodge of Odd Fellows and Harrisburg Grange. Although not a member of the Baptist church he was active in that organization and long served as treasurer of the Baptist society. (from his Obituary, Lowville Journal & Republican, 20 Feb 1930).
