He graduated from Boonville High School in 1933 and attended Bradley Polytech Institute, Peoria, IL. He also attended a Watchmaker's School while there. He opened his own jewelry store in Gouverneur NY in 1940. In 1942 he went into the war training service and served in Australia. He was discharged in Feb 1945 at Ft. Dix. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Gouverneur, and served as a deacon of the church. He was a member of the Church Youth Commission and was active in the establishment of the Gouverneur Youth Center in the church, under the direction of a trained youth center director. He was chief of the Gouverneur Volunteer Fire Co., a member of the Northern NY Firemen's Assn. and a member of the NY State Volunteer Firemen's Assn. He was Chairman of the joint legislative committee on fire laws, and a member of the Northern NY Chief's Assn. In 1954 he was named field representative of the fire district, including Jefferson, St. Lawrence, Essex, Clinton, and Oswego Counties. He had just been reappointed to this post at the time of his death.
