Willett and Polly came to Ava NY about 1834 or '35 via the Erie Canal to Rome. Records in the Oneida County Court House show that he was buying property in Ava in Nov 1825 for which he paid $1000, and again in 1835 for $175. He and his 2nd wife Zada and the family moved from Ava to Greig at the endof the year 1839 or early 1840. Deed recorded 18 Jan 1840 shows land purchased by Willett Vary--150 acres in the town of Greig in part then know as the Brantingam Tract--lot 128 and part of lot 110--price paid $1,500. In 1866, Willett erected with 3 others the New Columbia Cheese Factory, the first cheese factory in Harrisburgh NY. It received milk from 1000-1200 cows. His name appears as Dea. Willett Vary on his grave stone.
