Shared note

From the Watertown Daily Times of 12 May 2009: Obituary - For more than 20 years Mrs. Stiles was an English teacher in the Carthage Central School District, first at West Carthage High School and after centralization of the district, at Carthage Central High School. She retired from teaching in 1970.... Dorothy graduated as valedictorian of the class of 1926 at West Carthage High School. She went on to St. Lawrence University where she earned a bachelor of arts degree, majoring in English. She was a member of Delta, Delta Delta sorority. After graduation she began her teaching career at Cape Vincent.......To honor Mrs. Stiles, her family is establishing a fund to support an award that will be given annually to a Carthage Central High School senior who has demonstrated a love of literature and an appreciation of the writing process. It is hoped that this award will encourage an aspiring English major. Those interested in contributing to this fund may send a check to Carthage Central High School specifying that it is intended for the Dorothy Stiles Award.
