Shared note | "Aunt Hattie" attended the Harrisburg Baptist Church driving a horse and buggy. She threw a robe over her lap, even on the hottest summer days, to keep off road dust. Upon returning home, her special church dress was removed at once. Aunt Hattie had 4 wooden chairs with needlepoint covers over spring seats. Having no children of her own, she gave one chair to each of her 4 nephews - Fay, Ray, George, and Mason Vary - sons of husband's sister Ida Belle Webster Vary and husband Willett A. Vary. As of 2008, Thomas Fay Vary has the chair that belonged to his grandfather Fay Vary, and Joanne Vary Schwandes has the chair that belonged to her grandfather Fay's twin brother Ray. |
