Shared note

He graduated from Lowville Academy.

In 1961, the couple purchased a farm on State Route 12 in West Lowville and operated the dairy farm for 46 years retiring in 2003. Steve and Ruth then sold the farm in 2007 to Sue and Mike Maring what is now known as Tug Hill Vineyards, where they most recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2010.

In his retirement, Steve enjoyed working for Herb & Merle Yancey Combining Farms, plowed snow for Dave Johnson’s snowplow service at Tops Plaza and worked at Demko Farms until his death. Mr. Zubrzycki also was a two-term town of Lowville councilman. Over the years, Steve was well-known as an all-around athlete, playing in county softball and basketball leagues and he was past-president of the church softball league; was an avid golfer who just won the 2013 Monday Night Elks League at Carlowden along with his nephew, Stas Samsa; bowled in the Sunday night league for 54 years; enjoyed playing tennis as a young man and was a proud supporter of LACS Booster Club. He was one of the founding owners of R&R Hunting Club and was one heck of a Euchre player.

Steve was also a member of the Lewis County Marine Corp League Detachment # 754; Lewis County Memorial Post #6912 V.F.W. and life member of Lowville Elk’s Lodge #1605.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth; his mother-in-law, Irene Manzer, Lowville; two sons and their wives, Timothy J. and Katherine, Syracuse, and Anthony S. and Karen, Lowville; a sister, Sophie Samsa, Lowville; five grandchildren whom he was so proud of: Benjamin, Chase, Cole and twins Emma and Stephan; and several nieces and nephews.

Four brothers, Anthony, Edward, Stanley and Karl Zubrzycki, and four sisters: Frances Butula, Janice Pelcher, Louise Vogt and Caroline Williams, all died before him.

The “Purpose of Life” is a Life of Purpose. Stephan had a good one, and carried it out to the fullest.

Steve was a communicant of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, where a funeral mass will be said 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 25, with Rev. Christopher Carrara, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Lowville Rural Cemetery. Ccontributions may be made in Stephan’s name to: Friends of Lewis County Hospice, Inc., P.O. Box 266, Lowville, NY 13367.
