John Pielemeier, 87, of St. Joseph, died Tuesday, May 08, 2012 at home. He was born on March 20, 1925 to John H. and Pauline Pielemeier in Chelsea, MI. He attended Ann Arbor area schools and the University of Michigan. He was a 2 ½ year Veteran of WWII, serving in the Signal Corps and then was in the US Army Reserve for 5 years. In 1950 he married Mary Wilcox of St. Joseph. In 1952 he joined Whirlpool, where he worked for 37 years. After retirement he continued as a consultant at Whirlpool during the development of the Whirlpool Automatic Washer Plant in Pondicherry, India and the Whirlpool Sequoia Project. In St. Joseph he served as member and president of the Citizen's Advisory Council for 3 years. He served on the St. Joseph School Board for 8 years as member, treasurer and president. He volunteered at the Literacy Council. He also served on the Restoration Committee at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church in New Buffalo. He was on the board of United for Survival, which established the Recycling Center in St. Joseph. He also loved his vegetable garden. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Rosalie Eggleton and Helen Heyn. He is survived by his wife, Mary, and his children, William (Sue) Pielemeier, Lisa (Dennis) Stambach, Jan (Michael) Bosko, Rolf Pielemeier, John David Pielemeier, Randall (Kitty) Pielemeier and five grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Spaulding for Children, 16250 Northland Dr., Suite 120, Southfield, MI 48075 an organization founded by Warren Spaulding and Dorothea Pielemeier to assist in the adoption of handicapped children.

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 A.M. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 211 Church St., St. Joseph, with Fr. James Morris officiating. Friends may call from 5:00 until 7:30 P.M. Friday with Liturgical Prayers recited at 7:30 P.M. at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph.
