Death | Sarah M. Woodard, 78, wife of Duane E. Woodard, died at her home in Washington street at 7 Friday evening, after an illness of two weeks, death being caused by heart trouble and complications. Mrs. Woodard was born at Deer River, June 9th, 1856, a daughter of the late Moses and Matjida Bush LaSelle, residing there until her marriage to Mr. Woodard, December 31, 1879, when she came to Copenhagen, which has since been their home, with the exception of two years in Carthage, where Mr. Woodard was engaged in building operations. Mrs. Woodard was a member of the Church of Christ, Congregational, Carthage, of Copenhagen Rebekah lodge and was a former member of Copenhagen grange. Mr. and Mrs. Woodard celebrated the 50th anniversary of their marriage at their home here December 31, 1929. Surviving besides her husband are three daughters, Mrs. Elise Waite, Champion; Mrs. Margaret Johnson, Glenfield, and Mrs. Harold Rlpley, Auburn; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Wilson, Carthage, and Mrs. Joseph Shepard, Martinsburg, the latter a twin sister; four grandchildren, Merritt Waite and Edith Waite, Champion; Clarence Johnson, Glenfield, and Grace Ripley, Auburn, and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the home at 2 Monday, Rev. H. T. Atwood, pastor of the Copenhagen Congregational church officiating. Interment in Riverside cemetery, this village. |
